BRAD R. WALTON, A.Sc.T.
Mr. Walton is a graduate of Algonquin College, Ottawa, Ontario in their Industrial Engineering Fire Protection Program, is President and Chief Operations Officer of CFT Engineering Inc, and has more than 20 years of varied experience in operations and process involving the Building and Fire Code.
After graduation in 1980, he was employed as a test technician by Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada in Toronto, which is Canada’s main fire testing laboratory. Subsequently, he moved to Vancouver and joined Grinnell Fire Protection Ltd. as a designer of fire protection systems. Upon leaving Grinnell, Mr. Walton worked with the Insurers Advisory Organization (I.A.O.) of Canada as a Loss Control Representative in their engineering department. After four years with the I.A.O., he then worked with the North Vancouver City Fire Department as a fire inspector/investigator. From 1987 to 1992, Mr. Walton was a Building Code and Fire Protection Consultant with Rolf Jensen & Associates, Ltd. in Vancouver, and joined CFT Engineering Inc. in 1992.
Mr. Walton represents Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) and Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) on the B.C. Fire Code Committee. He has served on a committee studying Vancouver Building By-Law relaxations for sprinklered residential buildings to improve cost benefits and the City of Vancouver Task Force on Fire Pumps. In addition, he has assisted in the development of education/training programs for the fire service through the B.C. Fire Academy and is a tutor for the Fire Academy in the Fire Prevention Officers Program. He represented BOMA on the Sprinkler Task Group established by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and represents BOMA on the B.C. Ministry of Municipal Affairs Fire Safety Advisory Council established to provide a forum for discussion on issues related to fire safety and advise the Fire Commissioner.
Mr. Walton has given presentations on the Building and Fire Code at the Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association seminars and the North Vancouver Fire Department Officers’ Training Program. As a member of the Fire Protection Task Force developing certification programs for British Columbia, Mr. Walton is Chairman of the Fire Protection Task Group, subcommittee on Sprinkler/Standpipe Systems and the subcommittee on Smoke Control Systems. Mr. Walton teaches Special Fire Suppression Systems at BCIT.
Mr. Walton has provided fire protection and Building Code consulting services for numerous large and small retail, institutional, commercial, residential and industrial special hazards projects throughout Canada.
Mr. Walton is registered as an Applied Science Technologist in the Province of British Columbia and is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, the National Fire Protection Association, B.C. Building Inspectors Association, Vancouver Fire Prevention Officers Association and the Canadian Fire Alarm Association.
