EMILIA MAZZONNA, P.Eng., C.P., M.Eng.
Ms. Mazzonna has a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Building Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal. During her studies, Ms. Mazzonna took part in the Centre for Building Studies (CBS) which is the only Canadian-based university unit that offers an integrated programme of teaching and research in all aspects of building engineering.
Prior to joining CFT Engineering Inc., Ms. Mazzonna gained extensive building design and structural engineering experience. She has over 4 years of experience working in the wood construction industry designing residential and commercial buildings. Ms. Mazzonna has carried out structural design analysis of wood structures of various building developments. She has gained extensive experience working with Part 9 of the Building Code while working in this position.
Ms. Mazzonna has been with CFT Engineering Inc. since 1997. In this time, Ms. Mazzonna has gained experience with a variety of building type projects which include residential, commercial, and industrial development.
With CFT Engineering Inc. she has reviewed sprinkler shop drawings for Code compliance, written equivalency reports and Building Code Compliance reports, conducted timed exit analyses, and completed life safety studies and fire safety plans. Ms. Mazzonna’s work experience has gained her experience with the Vancouver Building By-Law, B.C. Building Code and the National Building Code of Canada.
Through continuing education, Ms. Mazzonna has developed an in-depth knowledge of fire protection, including courses in the fire protection systems, building codes and sprinkler design at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
While at CFT Engineering Inc., Ms. Mazzonna has also successfully completed a Masters in Fire Protection Engineering at the University of British Columbia in 2001. The Masters program included the study of ignition, fire growth, fire dynamics, and the response of materials, structures, systems and occupants to fire. Ms. Mazzonna is also involved with the use of computer modelling programs to simulate fire conditions in buildings.
Ms. Mazzonna is registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia and is a Certified Professional (C.P.). Ms. Mazzonna is currently a member of the executive of the Greater Vancouver Fire Protection Association. She is also a member of the Building Officials Association of B.C. and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
