MICHAEL A. LINTON, P.Eng., C.P.

Mr. Linton has been a Fire Protection and Building Code Engineering Consultant since 1989. Prior to joining CFT Engineering Inc., Mr. Linton was an Associate with Rolf Jensen & Associates Ltd., working in both the Vancouver and Toronto offices. Mr. Linton also worked with Larden Muniak Consultants Inc., Building Code Consultants in Toronto. Mr. Linton is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Provinces of Ontario and British Columbia.

Mr. Linton is experienced in developing conceptual approaches to Building Code compliance. Where necessary to realize cost benefits or where literal interpretation of the Code is not practical, Mr. Linton has developed equivalency solutions to Building Code compliance which meet the intent of the Code with respect to life and fire safety. In developing approaches to Code compliance, Mr. Linton has become familiar with local, national and international codes and standards as well as a substantial body of technical research.

As a Building Code consultant, he has undertaken both small and large scale projects requiring drawing review, Building Code analysis and review, and application of advanced techniques in fire protection engineering. Mr. Linton has developed conceptual reports and prepared Building Code compliance and fire protection engineering reports for a number of projects which require the integration of both new and existing construction. Mr. Linton has been the primary Building Code consultant for the upgrade of the Domestic Terminal Building at the Vancouver International Airport for over 10 years. Other large projects include the UBC Winter Sports Centre for the 2010 Olympic Games as well as numerous retail and residential developments across the lower mainland and the province of British Columbia.

Mr. Linton has experience with a number of computer modelling and simulation programs. He has also written fire protection programs including one to evaluate temperatures in protected and unprotected steel members when exposed to different fire scenarios.

Mr. Linton is a published author interested in furthering public awareness and education in the fields of life safety and fire protection. Mr. Linton has been a lecturer for the Certified Professional Program and more recently a speaker across the province of British Columbia presenting changes to the 2006 BC Building Code.

Mr. Linton is registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and in the Province of British Columbia. Mr. Linton is also registered as a Certified Professional. Michael's Civil Engineering and management sciences background, coupled with his Building Code and fire protection experience, make him a valuable asset to the team of professionals at CFT Engineering Inc.
